Tomás Alonso Vase
This collection makes good use of the highly skilled mold-making techniques available in Arita and the ability to fire porcelain precisely. Although elementary, the shapes in Alonso’s collection are especially difficult to achieve. The collection uses special porcelain clay developed in Arita that allows the shapes to be thinner and stronger and create crisp geometrical shapes. Alonso worked with Sehyou pottery to achieve these forms and to develop a range of colours using a new technique that sees pigment mixed with clay and applied by hand as a replacement for traditional glazing.
